Great question! For some of our internship positions we require a certain GPA of 3.0 or 3.5 or higher as a requirement for the internship so in this case GPA is very important since it's a requirement for the position. For other non internship, entry level positions, GPA is not typically looked at so it's not as important. You will want to research the company and positions you are applying for to see if a certain GPA is preferred or required for the position. Good luck!

It is important overall to have a good GPA.  We do have some teams that will require a higher GPA and some that a bit more lenient. I would say the rule of thumb across industries is 3.0 or higher GPA. Be sure to add your GPA to your resume, some employers may think you have a low GPA and that is why you are not sharing it.

I think the answer to this question can vary based on company and position. For some positions, a GPA is more important. For internships and our company leadership development program, we require a certain GPA. For non-rotational full-time positions, it can vary based on job field. Some job fields, such as Finance or Accounting, can be more strict. On some occasions, this requirement will be listed in the job qualifications or job description. If your GPA is above a 3.0, I would recommend including your GPA on your resume regardless if a position requires it or not. Often times, if there is a GPA requirement and it is not listed on your resume, a recruiter will assume it is not high enough and may disqualify you.

You've received some good responses here, and I second the statements about GPA being critical to certain positions and programs.  Typically the number a company is looking for as a minimum is listed in the job description or job profiles on their career site. 

It has been my experience that sometimes a lower GPA is not a deal breaker if experience, education and solid networking efforts are also present. 

So I've been at this whole career thing for a while.  I wouldn't include my college GPA on my resume because at this point my experience speaks for itself.  If I was asked for college transcripts, I would provide them if they are important to demonstrating my qualifications as an applicant.  If you are brand new to a job search and you don't have experience to show that you are a safe bet, then GPA is an indicator of your success up to this point.

We do require a GPA of 3.0 or higher for all positions in relation to our yearly Summer Internship Program. That is something the HR team has agreed on in close partnership with the Hiring Managers. Whenever a certain GPA is required, we clearly state it in the job posting to make sure we create the correct expectations. 
As mentioned in some answers before, this might vary from company to company, from industry to industry or even from position to position. However, GPA can be one of the criteria to look at when it comes to recruiting. Work experience, impressions during the interview process as well as additional qualifications will always be considered as well.

As a University Recruiter, I review hundreds of resumes through applications submitted online, from referrals, but also from potential candidates at career fairs. Since I am typically looking for entry level talent to fill internships or co-op positions, I understand that the applicants may not have an abundance of work experience. As a result, we use the student’s education, relevant courses, extra-curricular activities, leadership roles in organizations, or community service involvement to tell us about the student’s background, drive, and motivation. While I mentioned earlier, there could be hundreds of resumes that recruiters and hiring managers sift through for one position, so as an effort to narrow it down, they often choose to review candidates that have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. If you are at a career fair, and you have a high GPA, be sure to list it clearly on your resume, as this is what recruiters or managers will be looking for. It could definitely keep your resume at the top of their list. However, if you have a lower GPA, you might not want to showcase it on your resume, but instead, you should highlight your work experience, athletic involvement, leadership activities, awards, or other accomplishments. To answer your question, GPA can be important to recruiters, but it is not a deal breaker when making hiring decisions. We take into consideration that in addition to going to school full time, students have robust social lives, families to support, a full time job (in some cases multiple jobs), and also a responsibility to clubs or organizations outside of their studies.
