More and more companies are open to flexible working arrangements. Of course, your role has to be one in which working from home is seamless for your customers and/or business partners. It is likely though, that a certain level of trust has to be in place between your manager and yourself. This can take some time to establish. Although companies are becoming more open to working remotely, there should be a reason for requesting to work remotely on a regular schedule (ex. child care, transporation issues, etc,). I would not recommend approaching your manager with such a request unless you have such a justification. If you do have this, put together a written plan on how you will make the remote situation work and show our manager that you given considerable thought to the proposition.
In general, though, for companies to be successful in the coming years, they will have to embrace remote working arrangements as the shortage of certain types of talent in the US will require them to have this flexibility.
