What is a fact or skill that always impresses you when you see it on a resume?

1. Internship experience that outlines specific deliverables and achievements. (Something more than "provided customer service." --> "Increased customer service survey scores by 15% during a 3 month internship."

2. A strong GPA

3. Significant leadership and/or volunteerism

Thanks for the question!

I am impressed when a student has an intern or co-op assignment and, in addition to the basic facts (job title, location, company, responsibilities, etc.), he/she lists concrete accomplishments during that assignment and how those accomplishments furthered the project or work.  To me this demonstrates that the student understood the impact of his/her work.

I am also impressed with students who have paid a significant part, or all, of their college tuition by working while going to college.  Additionally impressive is when they maintain a great GPA in the process.  That signifies to me that the student has worked hard and earned his/her way.

I think this question will receive a different answer from each person you ask - it's kind of a personal preference.

I always look at accomplishments that a person lists under each position they have held - that helps me understand not just what they did but how well they did it. I also like to see leadership experience outside of the work environment, too. Officer positions with student groups while in college, committee leadership or project leadership for non-profit organizations. It shows me that this person brings a lot of potential, not just for the position we are considering them for today, but for the future.

I am in complete agreement with John...any student that has paid a significant portion or all of their tuition by working while attending college always gets my attention. A high GPA in addition, shows a level of dedication and commitment that we don't see all the time these days.

In addition, I also am impressed when I see longevity with a company coupled with progressing advancement within the organization. It is a tell tale sign that the organization most likely views this person as a high performer and as such has rewarded them with increasing levels of responsibility.
