Great question. In my experience, employers are looking for a brief, high level description of your role, contributions and successes. Be sure to use universal language versus present company acronyms for clarity. Also, your profile is an opportunity to highlight your interests and career goals. Use the profile as an opening for a conversation for which you can further present more detail from your resume. LinkedIn is really meant as a stepping stone for a more personal conversation about your career goals and aspirations, so keep it high-level. We are looking for specific information about you that relates to your field of work. If you are a software developer, feel free to talk about your passion or experience using the SDLC. Sale yourself within the summary.

A LinkedIn summary should offer something that the rest of your profile can’t. It is a way to show your personality and add some color to your work experience and education. Rather than simply listing the things that you did during your jobs or internships, explain what you enjoyed or interested you about the work. Additionally, your summary is a place to grab an employer's attention and give them an idea of who you are and what your career aspirations look like.

We're looking for you to make it straight forward to see you're awesome!  Feel free to editorialize yourself in the summary, but at the end of the day it should be clear, concise, to the point and include all the info that makes you hireable in the position you are seeking.
