In the workplace, what habits can be seen as cause for firing someone?

I am slightly confused by your question.  Do not focus on what will get you fired, but rather how can you excel in your role.  If you have to ask is this good enough, then you know it is not.  If you have to ask, will I get in trouble for doing this, either do not do it or ask your supervisor what is accepted as the norm in your organization.
Honesty, hard work, attendance, willing to learn, and respect for others will keep you on the right track!
Hope this helps.

Any violation of policies or anything that disrupts productivity can be grounds for termination. Being consistently late for work comes to mind immediately because time is money to any organization and the organization depends on every team member to do their part maintain productivity. Also, showing blatant disrespect or leaders (insubordination) is one that often causes people to be let go. Remember that productivity is often threatened by any form of a bad attitude. Even if you show a bad attitude but are highly productive, your leader(s) may wait for that first slip-up to discipline you. Another thing to remember is a leader won't always give you "progress report" of your bad habits. Some watch, keep score, then drop the bomb on you. Great question, by the way.

I think it is important to not focus on the things that would get you fired. If you do something and you think to yourself "should i be doing this?" chances are you should not be. Any topic that seems unclear, you can always reference an employee handbook or look to your HR business partner/generalist. In any position you hold, you should always make sure to be on time, be respectful to others and refrain from saying that may be offensive. Most importantly, always have the good of the company in mind.

Hope that helps!
