Thanks for asking! Like Phil said above, there isn’t really a “best” time to start doing internships. Typically, most companies hire rising seniors and rising juniors for summer internships, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t going to consider a rising sophomore. If you meet the basic qualifications and have experiences to discuss during an interview, there is a possibility you could obtain an internship. Summer internships are not the only way to gain real-life experiences over the Summer. If you are unable to obtain an internship the Summer before your sophomore year, it’s important to make sure you’re still spending your time constructively, gaining experiences you can talk about later (i.e. volunteer opportunities, summer jobs…).
