I think it's great that you prioritized your academics over work. Education is important and taking the necessary time to learn and improve your understanding and skill set will be an advantage in your job search. That being said, you should definitely list your work experience in your resume and speak about the transferable skills it's provided you in your cover letter. I recommend you not mention the opportunity to move into management. The text in your cover letter should be focused and concise. Rather, the management opportunities are something you can address in an interview when you speak about your leadership potential.
