How can I find out about salary levels in different industries?

Hi there,
There are many resources when it comes to pay levels in various industries. One good place to look, especially if you have some companies in mind, would be Glassdoor. They provide you with company reviews and salaries for various roles within the organization.

When it comes to salary negotiations, I would recommend using a salary generating website, like salary.com, which allows you to see what others are earning on average in that field. You can list specific criteria, such as years of experience, education level, industry, geographical location, and some other details relevant to the position.

This information is all over the internet, but as with most data, it’s pretty scattered and varies widely. If you’re a currently college student, I suggest you first visit your on-campus Career Center and see what resources they may have. A lot of companies have great relationships with campus career centers and share this kind of information back and forth. If not, the internet it is. If you’re looking for some names, try Glassdoor.com, Indeed.com, Salary.com, Payscale.com, or with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Mind you, these are just a few. Keep a few thing in mind when searching though. Salaries, even within the same industry, are going to vary based on title, special skills, and location, to name just a few. In other words, an engineer in NYC working for a small firm will not have the same salary as an engineer working at the same firm in Ohio. Same thing if those two engineers have different job titles b/c they were hired for two different tasks. So it can be tough, but by doing a little research, you should be able to get at least a general idea of how much!
